Verlag Hermann Schmidt Mainz
Along with flower power and the eighties look, the Bauhaus is celebrating a comeback: retro is trendy. The same publisher brought us the book Retrodesign, which examined stylistic elements and their corresponding set of values. But what font fits a fifties lounge invitation? In what type should I set the good old times of Historicism? What alternatives are there to the “usual suspects” and where do I find them?
Gregor Stawinski embarked on a search, and his more than 600-page-long retro-type bible includes the Top 400 retro fonts of style periods from Historicism to the 1980s, frequently accompanied by historic or modern applications and a complete list of sources. The cherry on top is the supplementary CD with 250 retro free fonts.
