Los principios básicos del Diseño Gráfico (The Basic Principles of Graphic Design)
Blume
Broken down into three thematic sections – Basic Principles, Principles of the Creative Process, and Principles According to the Disciplines – the book includes everything one has to know about design and producing original work. The main sections are further divided into subsections with essays written by internationally renowned designers in the field of graphic design.
The first section includes chapters on Typography, Colour and Style, and proposes that the practice of graphic design is both a science and an art in which these three models constitute their own worlds, all of them crucial to obtaining quality results. The second section is divided into Visual Strategy, Research, Imagination, Management Flow and Financial Reports, and Production, which treat design like a careful balancing act between cultural anthropology, psychology, commerce and creativity. Within this context, graphic design must also consider the cultural roots of a project.
The last section consists of thirty-six practical examples that analyse projects by way of a graphically rendered overview of designers working for specific clients, accompanied by brief, explanatory introductions.
The book concludes with transcribed excerpts from interviews with designers, who reflect on the outset of a project, their first assignments, mistakes, the learning process and the work of a designer. The book closes with a glossary. By sharing experiences and an understanding of graphic concepts, the book serves as a practical guide to tackling the everyday aspect of creative work.
