This volume features reproductions of a selection of the copperplates etched by Giambattista Piranesi in the years from 1743 to 1753. Held by the prestigious Copperplate Collection and the National Institute of Graphics in Rome, the works illustrated here include the First Part of Architecture and Perspectives and the Certain Views of Triumphal Arches series, the matrices for the Fall of Fetonte, the four Grotesques and the two series of the Prisons and of the Trophies of Octavian Augustus. The publication was put together in the framework of the project to reconstruct, study and analyse Piranesi’s works conducted by the National Institute.
